Andrew Rossow
Senior Guide and Owner
Andrew was born in Kalispell, Montana. He moved to Redding, Ca when he was 5 years old. He started fly fishing when he was in the 6th grade when he asked for his first fly fishing rod for Christmas. Andrews Dad and Uncle taught him the basics of fly fishing and spent most of his early years fishing Hat Creek. His favorite way to fish is Spey fishing for Steelhead. He finds all aspects of the outdoors incredible, including turkey hunting. He loves Northern California because of the amazing mountains, most of which has water flowing through them. He lives in Trinity County with the wilderness in his backyard. Guests like to fish with Andrew because of his positive attitude. His true passion for fly fishing combined with an in-depth knowledge of our local area results in a memorable day in the outdoors
Colton Schwenning
Senior Guide and Owner
Colton Schwenning was born and raised in the trout mecca of Northern California. Having been taught by his mother, Colton has been fishing ever since he can remember. He has gotten his boots wet or put an oar stroke in just about every trout stream or river that Northern California has to offer. He graduated from the Clearwater Guide School in 2016 and has been guiding ever since. Colton is incredibly patient, sociable, and knowledgeable. His passion for fishing and teaching is unparalleled. A day spent with Colton is guaranteed to be full of fun, adventure, and education. When he is not guiding Colton enjoys riding his mountain bike, swinging flies for steelhead in coastal rivers, and rock climbing.
Joel Fenton
Guide
Joel Fenton is a 2017 Clearwater Guide School grad was born and raised in Northern CA. Frequently fishing with his golden retriever Dakota, they have been scouring the areas waters for trout and steelhead for over a decade. His easy going attitude and patience helps both beginner and advanced anglers alike put fish in the net and improve their skills on the water.
Mossy
Guide
Mossy has been fly fishing since he was 6 years old. He grew up on the central coast of California and couldn’t get enough of the amazing trout fishing the northern corner of the state has to offer. Graduating the “Clearwater Guide school” at age 20 and spending several years on the Clearwater guide staff Mossy has what it takes to put you on the fish. Days spent with Mossy are always light hearted and full of fun. He can skillfully cater to all ages and talent levels, always be ready to learn something new! When he isn’t guiding Mossy’s favorite pastimes include, swinging for steelhead, foraging, and archery hunting in the awesome part of the state he now calls home.
Porter Simonis
Guide
Born and raised in Northern California, Porter Simonis has always been in love with the outdoors. At a young age, he started spin fishing all the local spots. It wasn’t until high school that he was introduced into fly fishing by good buddies. It was game over when he hooked his first fish on a fly rod. As he fell in love with the sport, he began to realize that the true adventure lies within the places it takes you and the life long friends you meet along the way. Catching fish is the bonus! Becoming a guide in 2020, Porter is the newest addition to the Clearwater group. Spending 2 years at the Clearwater lodge, he is proficient in guiding all the great waters Northern California has to offer. Porter’s contagious smile and easy going personality will have you enjoying your day from start to finish, while in search of those fish that will create a lifetime memory.
Ryan Avezzie
Guide
Ryan grew up on the waters of Northern California as a convention fisherman. In his 20’s, his Dad introduced him to fly fishing and he has never looked back. A former firefighter, Ryan joined the Clearwater team in 2018 and is known for his patience and passion for teaching every single guide day. His gent spirit and strong work ethic brings his guests back year after year. He loves guiding for trout in the surrounding waters of this CA fly fishing Mecca, but his main pursuit is chasing bass on Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown Lake. When not out fishing, hunting or enjoying the outdoors, Ryan is at home loving every second of being a dad and a family man.
